Club members & friends, reserve seats for our Sept. luncheon Mon, 21 Jul 2014 19:42:43 +0000 The Democratic Club of Sarasota will host our September 13th luncheon at 11:00 a.m. at the Robert L. Taylor Center in Newtown to raise Democratic Party awareness, to register voters, to encourage voters to vote by mail, and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Newtown Community. The keynote speaker will be Representative Alan B. Williams from the Florida House of Representatives.

Newtown Residents

The residents of Newtown will be our guests for a barbecue lunch and a special program that will include Newtown Leadership. Are you a Newton resident? If so, please RSVP here.

In order to fund this event, our members will pay $25 each to attend, and we welcome any additional donations. We are requiring that this event be prepaid because we do not want to collect money on the day of the event.

We don’t want to cause confusion with our members paying and the guests not paying. We are anticipating a large turn out for this event and the $25 per person from our club members will help, but it will not cover our costs. If you are able to make an additional donation, it will help to offset our costs for this important outreach event. We plan to make this an annual event in Newtown and greatly appreciate your support.

Wine, Cheese, & Politics – May 22 Ellis Robinson of Ruth’s List Sun, 27 Apr 2014 21:46:34 +0000 Ellis Robinson of Ruth’s List – “Florida Politics by the Numbers”

Ellis-Robinson-2014Join us as we welcome Ellis Robinson Executive Director of Ruth’s List.

Ruth’s List was formed in 2008 with the goal to build a progressive Florida by recruiting, supporting, and electing pro-choice Democratic women to state and local office. To date, Ruth’s List has trained more than 500 candidates, and provided coaching for and actively endorsed dozens of candidates for statewide office, the State Legislature, County Commissions, and key City Council races.

Did you know that…

  • Although 53% of Florida registered voters are women, they represent less than 25% of our office-holders.
  • Once elected, Democratic women are the most progressive voters on policy. Elect a pro-choice, Democratic women and you also elect a pro-environment, pro-labor, pro-children, pro-education, pro-equality, and overall progressive champion.
  • Ruth’s List has done the numbers and has a plan to reach 40%+1 in one house of the legislature by 2016 and tie or take-back one house by 2020. Come learn more about these numbers and most importantly how we can help achieve them!

Cost / Reservations

Wine, beer, soft beverages, and light bites will be provided.

Cost is $20 per person and can be paid at the door by cash, credit card, or check. Make checks payable to the DCS and please fill them out ahead of time.

Support our student fund Thu, 24 Apr 2014 02:30:01 +0000 Young People Are Our Future

The Democratic Club of Sarasota’s Student Fund was established in 2012 to make it possible for high school and college students to attend Democratic events.

  • Exposing our young people to great speakers through the Florida Democratic Party, the Sarasota County Democratic Party, and the Democratic Club of Sarasota will have a lifelong impact on how they view political and civic engagement.
  • In return, we see these committed Democratic students giving back to our organization by volunteering at club events, at Democratic headquarters, and working with candidates.
  • We are currently raising money to sponsor a table of students at the Sarasota County Democratic Party’s Kennedy-King dinner on February 23rd.

Please donate to support the student fund!
