DEMOCRATIC CLUB OF SARASOTA MONTHLY ZOOM MEETING: JANUARY 9, 2021 WITH SPECIAL GUEST, JOURNALIST & AUTHOR CARRIE SEIDMAN
Join the Democratic Club of Sarasota on Saturday, January 9, 2021 when former Sarasota Herald-Tribune lead columnist Carrie Seidman will share her experiences and observations as a Sarasota journalist for the past 10 years. In more than 500 columns, written three times a week from 2017 to last November, Carrie asked readers to consider local issues with a humanistic focus on social justice, equity and inclusion. She will share her insights into changes she’s observed in our community and in the news industry over the past decade, and discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
A winner of Mental Health America’s 2016 national media award for “The S Word,” a series on schizophrenia and the author of “FACEing Mental Illness: The Art of Acceptance,” the product of a fellowship from the Carter Center for Mental Health Journalism, Carrie has a particular interest in the area of mental health and the impact of trauma on individuals and communities. She is currently at work on a book about her son’s journey to wellness after a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder, as well as a book about her late father, L.W. Seidman, a banking expert and former director of the FDIC.
Please join us to listen to and ask questions of this thoughtful writer and community champion.
