Note: These candidates are not running against each other; they are each running for different seats. The Sarasota School Board election is the same day as the Florida primary, August 23, 2022.   

Education advocate, teacher and administrator Nora Cietek is running for the School Board seat in District 5. Originally from upstate New York, she and her family moved to Venice three years ago. Nora began her career as a teaching assistant and then became the first person in her family to get a college degree. During her 30-year career with the Schenectady NY Public School System, Nora served as a special education teacher, assistant principal, principal, and the system’s Assistant Director of Special Education.  Her B.S. is in Special Education and Psychology, and she holds a master’s degree in Educational Psychology. She says, “For me, it’s all about our children and the teachers and staff who work tirelessly every day to make sure…children have access to all the resources they need to strive to be the best they can be.”
