DAVID SHAPIRO, President

David Shapiro is a Board-Certified Civil Trial who has been practicing in Sarasota, Florida for 34 years and rated as an AV Preeminent® civil trial attorney by Martindale-Hubbel, the most respected peer rating ranking available in the United States. David Shapiro is a life long Democrat who ran as  the Democratic candidate for the  U.S. Congress in 2018. He has served on the Board of Children First, a  top nationally ranked Head Start program, and is a current Board member of the Jewish Family and Children Services,  serving Sarasota and Manatee counties.

VICKI LACHMAN, Secretary

Vicki, a Philadelphia native who prior to her retirement in 2012 was President of V.L. Associates and a Clinical Professor at Drexel University. With an expansive career as a psychotherapist, healthcare consultant, professor, and ethicist, Vicki brings a wealth of valuable skills to her work in DCS and as a Precinct 109 Captain, such as team building, strategic planning, conflict resolution, and organizational ethics. When she's not busy with work and politics, Vicki loves to indulge in her hobbies of gardening, international travel, theater, and reading.

MONICA STREACKER, Treasurer

Monica Streacker is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a BA in Public Health Administration. She retired to Sarasota after a career in the insurance industry in San Francisco for over thirty-five years. She held a property/casualty license as well as a license for life, health and disability.
She is currently a Precinct Captain in #209 and the Treasurer of the Democratic Club. She is an avid traveler and also enjoys physical activity. Her favorite place to visit is the place she hasn't been.
She has lived in the City of Sarasota for the last nine years.

TOM COOK, Corresponding Secretary

My wife, Kathy, and I moved full-time to Sarasota in 2004 from Columbia, Maryland. While in Maryland, I spent over 30 years working as a contract Software Engineer at NASA’s Goddard
Spaceflight Center. Since moving to Sarasota, I have volunteered at Mote Marine Laboratory in the Red Tide Lab. Then I volunteered as an in-classroom aide at Sarasota’s Head Start Program (ChildrenFirst) for over ten years. I have also been a mentor with UnidosNow’s Future Leaders Academy. My wife and I are supporters of the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota and Desoto counties. I have been a long-term board member of the Democratic Club of Sarasota.

HELEN MAGILL, Past President

Helen Magill is a licensed realtor who was raised in Jacksonville, FL, and received her business degree from Florida State College. After spending fifteen years in Boston where she became a mom to three children, she moved to Sarasota, FL. She loves volunteering in her community - registering voters, canvassing, doing outreach events, and serving on school advisory committees. Helen's passions are advocating for the disadvantaged, exercising, and playing with her family. She has served on the DCS board as President and now as Director and Outreach Coordinator.
