Wednesday, May 22nd – Wine, Cheese & Politics – Phil Kellerman – Untangling Immigration

Phil KellermanJoin us as we welcome Phil Kellerman, an advocate for migrant farm workers and their families since 1989, addressing the proposed immigration bill that seeks to deal with the estimated 10 million undocumented persons residing in the United States and to change regulations for those who want to legally come to the U.S. What is in the bill? What is it going to take for an undocumented individual to become a citizen? Is the bill fair? What will it mean for businesses dependent on immigrant labor? And, what about high school graduates who are still not legal citizens? How does the bill help them? Thanks to an inheritance from his grandmother, Dr. Helen Zand, Phil established the Harvest of Hope Foundation in 1997 in Oneonta, New York. Based now in Gainesville, Florida, the foundation has distributed more than 1 million dollars in aid to field workers and their families across the country. Financial assistance is provided for vehicle repairs due to breakdowns, housing, utilities, rent, medical services, food, clothes, and funeral expenses. Educational aid is given to children of migrant farm workers who are attending college.

Cheese, desserts, wine, beer, and other beverages will be served. Please note that RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. We are now limited to 50 attendees at this venue.
