Saturday, September 14th – Luncheon – Phil Kellerman – Untangling Immigration
Join us as we welcome Phil Kellerman, founder of the Harvest of Hope Foundation and an advocate for migrant farm workers and their families since 1989. Phil addressed the Club at a Wine, Cheese & Politics event this past May and due to popular demand and the importance of the immigration issue, we have invited him to speak at the September luncheon. He will address the proposed immigration bill that seeks to deal with the estimated 10 million undocumented persons residing in the United States and to change regulations for those who want to legally come to the U.S. What is in the bill? What is it going to take for an undocumented individual to become a citizen? Is the bill fair? What will it mean for businesses dependent on immigrant labor? And, what about high school graduates who are still not legal citizens? How does the bill help them? The Harvest of Hope Foundation has distributed more than 1 million dollars in aid to field workers and their families across the country, providing financial assistance for vehicle repairs, housing, utilities, rent, medical services, food, clothes, and funeral expenses, as well as educational aid.
